Tennessee State led by four, 66-62 with 25 seconds on the clock before a layup by Trant Simpson brought the Bulldogs to within two. TSU's Darius Cox knocked down a free throw for the three-point lead, 67-64 with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Simpson dribble the full length of the court and hit a triple from the top of the key for the tie. Freshman Casey Cantey stole the inbound pass from under A&M's basket and was fouled on the shot. He hit a pair from the charity stripe with :03 showing to put the Bulldogs up by two. The Tigers' last second attempt was unsuccessful as the Bulldogs pulled off the 69-67 victory at Elmore Gymnasium.
Cornelius Hester scored 21 points in 35 minutes of action to lead A&M. Simpson and Cantey had 14 and 13 points, respectively. John Smith chipped in with seven points and pulled down a game-high 11 boards off the glass. As a team, the Bulldogs converted 27-of-79 shots for a 34.2 percent shooting clip. A&M scored 22 points off 21 Tiger turnovers, while only committing 12 turnovers for the entire game. The Bulldogs were also 10-for-13 from the line.
For TSU, Jerrell Houston recorded a game-best 25 points off 11-for-15 shooting (73 percent). Emmanuel Gaiter added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench in 18 minutes of play. Sephen Evans was shy of a double-double with nine points and nine boards. The Tigers shot 48 percent (26-for-54) from the field, but were only 13-for-21 at the stripe.
The Bulldogs are back on the road when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to face Western Kentucky on Dec. 21 beginning at 4 p.m.
