The Bulldogs were unable to get things going offensively in the second half as the Blazers pulled away and handed the Alabama A&M women's basketball team its fourth consecutive road loss of the season in Birmingham, Ala. A&M heads into SWAC play with a 2-8 record and will host Grambling at Elmore Gym on Saturday Jan. 3.
Katrich Williams led A&M offensively with 18 points and four assists in 36 minutes of action. Chaymieyon Moss had 10 points and pulled down five off the glass. Ashleonte Samuel chipped in with seven points and seven boards.
The Bulldogs kept it close in the first half, with the score knotting on eight different occasions. UAB went into the lockeroom with the 30-27 advantage, however. A&M shot 46 percent (12-for-26) from the field and had 14 points off seven Blazer turnovers.
In the second half, UAB led by as many as 17, 57-40, with 8:26 left in regulation. The Bulldogs could not fully overcome the deficit the Blazers rolled to the 65-53 victory.
For Alabama-Birmingham, Britney Jones scored a game-high 27 points. Amanda Peterson added 14 points on the night.
The Bulldogs will open up SWAC play on Saturday Jan. 3 when they host Grambling beginning at 4 p.m.
