Felicia Drummond scored 19 points, and the Alabama A&M defense stifled Texas Southern to 18 percent shooting and 12 points in the first half as the Bulldogs snapped their three game losing streak with a 50-45 victory Monday at Elmore Gymnasium. Rebekkah Barnes added 12 points to lift A&M. The defense held the Tigers to just three points over the first 11 minutes of the game and led 22-12 at the intermission.
Alabama A&M built its lead to as much as 15 in the second half, but Texas Southern would not go away easily. The Tigers cut the lead to five with inside a minute to play, but Barnes and Christian Malone sealed the game from the free throw line.
AAMU moves to 5-4 in the SWAC and 7-11 overall.
TSU was led by Tina Brown and Taneisha Riles, who each scored nine. The Tigers are now 4-5 in the SWAC and 6-13 overall.
