Final Stats
Birmingham, Ala. -
Four players recorded in double figures as the Bulldogs' season abruptly came to a halt with a 67-61 loss to the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University in quarterfinal action of the SWAC Tournament on Thursday Mar. 13 at Fair Park Arena in Birmingham Alabama.
With 19 seconds on the clock, A&M had a chance to send the game into overtime, but a turnover by the Bulldogs and a free throw shot by the Devilettes with 10 ticks left sealed the win for MVSU.
The loss spelled heartbreak again for Alabama A&M in the SWAC Tournament. The Bulldogs are not just 1-7 all-time in the post-season event.
Felicia Drummond closed out her A&M career with 15 points and eight rebounds. Six other seniors had their time wearing the maroon and white come to an end. Rebekkah Barnes (14 points), Christian Malone (10 points), Sade Lett (5 points), Alexis Faulk, Naomi Barnes, and Gabrielle Jones all played their final game.
It looked as though A&M was going to survive midway through the second half. The Bulldogs trailed for much of the first half only to rally for a 28-27 lead at intermission. That lead rose to nine points by the 14:38 mark of the second half.
MVSU responded with a 12-2 run over the next two and a half minutes, and the game was nip and tuck the rest of the way.
The Delta Devils owned the glass, 37-26 and converted that advantage to a 21-10 margin from the free throw line.
The Bulldogs close out their season at 14-14.
