Big Seventh Inning Drives A&M Past Grambling in Opening Round of SWAC Tourney

Prairie View, Texas - Tied at one all after six innings, the Bulldogs scored three unanswered runs in the top of the seventh to help them drive past Grambling State in the opening round of the SWAC Tournament. A&M will face Mississippi Valley State on Friday, April 25 with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.

A&M scored the first run of the game in the third inning when Wendy Buccholz rounded the bases and reached home on a Ne'Chell Bowens RBI single. The Tigers scored a run in the fifth to knot the score at one, however. Re'Quincia Mack singled to drive in Paris Sanders for a one run edge in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Brandy Harrell's double to center field drove in Mack and Buchholz to add the final two runs in the inning for the Bulldogs. The Tigers did not have an answer as the Bulldogs walked away with the 4-1 victory.

For A&M, Harrell went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Buccholz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Borcherding was awarded the win on the mound - fanning 10 batters in seven innings of work. GSU pitcher Viveca Patterson suffered the loss. Chae'wayla Jackson drove in Rosanna Alvarado for the lone RBI and run for the Tigers.

AAMU will face Valley on April 26 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
