Softball Drops Doubleheader to Belmont

Huntsville, Ala. - The Alabama A&M softball team dropped a doubleheader to the visiting Belmont Bruins by scores of 9-0 and 4-1 Monday afternoon at Bulldog Field. A&M returns to action on Friday, April 11 when it hosts the first of its three game series against conference opponent Mississippi Valley State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

 
Belmont jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by an Erin Grier grand slam. The Bulldogs were unable to recover as they were held to just two hits in five innings of play en route to the 9-0 final. For the Bruins, Grier went a flawless 3-for-3 with 5 RBI and two runs scored. Pitcher Sammi Parks picked up the win at the plate - fanning seven batters in five innings of work. A&M pitcher Kristine Miles suffered the loss for A&M.
 
In game two, Belmont scored two unanswered runs to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third. A&M responded in the bottom of the sixth when Hali Buie drove in Ne'Chell Bowens for the Bulldogs' first and only run of the afternoon. The Bruins, however, scored two more runs in the seventh inning for the 4-1 final. Parks was awarded her second straight win at the mound, while Buie picked up the loss for A&M. Buie also recorded the lone RBI for the Bulldogs. For the the Bruins, Angie Helseth went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
 
A&M is set to host Mississippi Valley on Fri., April 11 beginning at 4 p.m.
