Martin, Tenn. - Senior LeTisha Davis recorded the only goal for A&M as the Bulldogs dropped their season opener to the University of Tennessee-Martin by a score of 2-1. A&M traveled to Martin, Tenn. with 11 starters and just one substitute, as fatigue played a role later on in the game.
The Skyhawks held a 1-0 advantage at the half on a goal from junior midfielder Sophie Cox. UT-Martin eventually scored again at the 56:31 mark on a Kristina Goalstine assist to Katie Imperial. A&M's LeTisha Davis gave the Bulldogs their only goal with 41 seconds to play from 40 yards out for the 2-1 final.
"We played a very good and tight game," head coach Frank Davies said. "We created several changes that led to 1-on-1 situations with UT-Martin's goalkeeper, but was unable to finish because of tired legs."
A&M is back in action on Sunday Aug. 24 when it travels to Kennesaw, Ga. to face Kennesaw State for a 1pm start.
