Photo Gallery Four Bulldogs had breakout nights as the Alabama A&M men's basketball team snapped its four game skid with a convincing 91-76 victory over the visiting Braves of Alcorn State. Trant Simpson had his first triple double of his career with 22 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds - a career high. Jonathan Smith recorded his second double double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 11 boards. Casey Cantey had a career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field in 28 minutes of play. Cantey also pulled down seven off the glass. Desmond Jackson hit 8-of-12 from the field for a season-high 16 points, including a 4-for-9 mark from behind the arc. A&M improves to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the SWAC. The team will host Southern on Mon. Jan. 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In the first half, the Bulldogs trailed 12-8 with 13:20 left. A&M retook its lead since the 19:31 mark off a layup by Jonathan Inman. A pair of free throws by the Braves' Brandon Rogers gave Alcorn a short-lived 20 second lead. Another basket by Inman on the next possession gave the Bulldogs the advantage for good. Alabama A&M held a 41-30 margin heading into the lockerroom.
In the second period, The Bulldogs hit two straight baskets to push its spread to 15 (45-30) within the first minute. Alcorn used an 8-2 run to cut it to 64-59 with 9:23 left. The Braves would not get any closer, however as A&M cruised to the 91-76 win. Alabama A&M shot 55 percent from the floor - its season high in a single half - hitting 18-of-28 second half hoops. For the game, the the Bulldogs were 33-for-60 (55 percent).
As a team, A&M dominated the paint, scoring 45 points as opposed to Alcorn's 34. The Bulldogs also scored 16 points off 13 Alcorn mishaps. The Braves held a 41-39 edge on the glass over A&M, however.
Inman chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, and two swats. Jonathan Belt chipped in with eight points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the stripe.
ASU was led by Troy Jackson's 21 points. Anthony Ford recorded a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jarvis Williams also tallied 14 points on the night.
The Bulldogs will host Southern on Jan. 26. The game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
