Chaymieyon Moss led the Alabama A&M womens basketball team to a 72-60 in its first game of the new year over visiting SWAC opponent Grambling State. The Bulldogs, who entered 09 with a 2-8 overall mark, forced 21 Tigers turnovers and held them to just a 31.5 percent shooting clip. A&M will play Jackson State on Monday Jan. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Moss tallied 21 points, four swipes, and nine boards - just one rebound shy of a double-double. tallied a game-high 21 points and four steals . Katrich Williams had nine points, including 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Erica Thompson chipped in with six points and dished out six assists.
For the Tigers, Rachele Dobbins and Secrett Anderson each recorded 10 points.
The Bulldogs went into the lockerroom with a 30-23 advantage and scored six unanswered points following intermission to take a 34-23 lead with 18:23 minutes to play. Grambling cut it to eight, 46-38, but A&M went on a 14-7 run over a five-plus span to achieve a 16 point lead, 62-47 - its largest cushion of the game - with 6:33 remaining in regulation. GSU did not have an answer as the Bulldogs cruised to the 72-60 victory.
A&M turned 21 Grambling miscues into 19 points. The Tigers held a 46-41 edge on the glass, however.
The Bulldogs improve to 3-8 on the season, including 1-0 in the SWAC, and will host Jackson State on Monday Jan. 5. The game is slated for 5:30 p.m.
