A&M Wins Third Straight, Defeats Central Michigan 74-61

Box Score / The Bulldogs outrebounded the Chippewas of Central Michigan, 50-26, as A&M earned its third straight victory, 74-61, on Tuesday night in Elmore Gym. Three players reached in double figures with Katrich Williams leading the way with a game-high of 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. Whiquitta Tobar and Dominisha Johnson scored 15 apiece.  Nesfayia Watkins pulled down a game-high 10 off the glass. The team is back in action on Dec. 19 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State for a 7 p.m. tip.

 

In the second half, CMU took a short-lived 43-42 margin at the 15:34 mark. A&M regained the lead off a Brittney Carter layup and pushed the spread to 11 (58-47) with just under 10 minutes left in regulation. The Chippewas used a 8-2 run to slice into the advantage and cut it to 60-52. Central Michigan would get no closer than that, however.

 

As a team, the Bulldogs were 25-for-56 from the floor (44.6 percent) and a season-best 84 percent from the stripe (21-for-25). A&M also held a slim 25-30 edge in the paint.

 

For CMU, Shonda Long led her team with 17 points in 36 minutes of action. Jalisa Olive had 12 points, while Britni Houghton chipped in with eight.

 

The Bulldogs started the game with six straight points. The Chippewas  went on a 8-4 run  to tie the score. A&M went on a 12-1 run over a four-plus span, highlighted by five a Williams triple, to take its largest advantage of the game, 21-11, with 8:36 left in the first 20. Central Michigan used a 9-2 run to take a 34-32 lead at the three minute mark. The Bulldogs scored eight unanswered to take a 40-34 cushion into intermission. Williams led all scorers at the half with 13 points.
