Box Score / The Bulldogs were edged 77-71 by Texas Southern on Sat. Feb. 28 at Elmore Gym. Trant Simpson led A&M with a game-best 24 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 14-for-18 from behind the charity stripe. Jonathan Inman recorded 11 points. The Bulldogs 21-of-43 hoops for a 48.8 shooting percentage for the game. With the loss, A&M drops to 5-10 in the SWAC and 7-16 overall. The team will host its final home game of the season against Prairie View. The game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers were leading 51-41 with 13:10 remaining in regulation until a pair of free throws by Simpson sparked the Bulldogs to score eight more unanswered points to bring themselves to within one midway through the second period. A&M could not gain the advantage, as they would get no closer for the rest of the game.
In the first half, A&M held a slim six point advantage, 8-2, with 17:17 left in the half. TSU took the advantage with 9:58 left in the period off a basket by Jacques Jones. The Tigers held a 25-21 lead at the half.
For Texas Southern, Deandre Hall had 20 points in 36 minutes of action. Mathew Miller recorded 19 points on the night. Nick Walker chipped in with 10 points.
The Bulldogs will host Prairie View on Monday March 2 for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
