Photo Gallery / The Bulldogs dominated the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley at Elmore gym on Saturday night in its second meeting of the season. Four A&M players posted double figures as the Bulldogs shot an impressive 51.2 percent (22-for-43) for the game. Alabama A&M improves to 7-11 overall and 5-5 in SWAC play. The team will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday Feb. 9. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
Cornelius Hester tallied 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, and shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Jonathan Belt had a solid night with 12 points and seven boards. Desmond Jackson and Trant Simpson recorded 11 points apiece. Simpson was 9-for-10 from the free throw line. John Smith chipped in with eight points and pulled down six off the glass. Jonathan Inman grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
For the Devils, Eric Petty had a double-double with his game-high 19 points and 13 boards. Julius Cheeks tallied 15 points. Amos Studivant chipped in with seven points.
In the first half A&M held a 14 point advantage, 27-13 - its largest of the game - with 4:19 left in the period. MVSU outscored the Bulldogs 11-4 in the remaining four minutes to cut it to 31-24 heading into the lockerroom, however.
The Devils carried their momentum into the second period and brought it to within three, 34-31, off a pair of free throws by Petty. Valley would get no closer, however, as A&M pushed the spread to double digits, 41-31, at the 14:22 mark. The Bulldogs went up by as many as 14, 57-43 with just over eight minutes to play. The Devils chipped away at the advantage and used Petty's two at the stripe to cut it to 67-61. A&M held on to the lead and cruised to the 78-65 victory.
The Bulldogs will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
