Photo Gallery / The Alabama A&M womens basketball team dropped a 67-61 decision to the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley at Elmore Gym on Saturday night. The Bulldogs were lead by Katrich Williams' game-best 22 points and eight boards. Chaymieyon Moss tallied 11 points, six rebounds, and seven swats in 24 minutes of action. The Bulldogs fall to 8-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play. A&M will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday Feb. 9 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
In the second half, MVSU led by as many as 15, 60-45, with 6:45 remaining in regulation off a jumper by Ashley Brown. The Bulldogs then scored 12 straight unanswered points to cut it to 60-57 with 1:18 left. Williams scored six points during the run. A&M would get no closer, however, as the Devilettes held on for the 67-61 win.
Mississippi Valley controlled the game from the opening tip as they took a 6-0 lead before A&M responded with a Williams basket. The score was knotted at 32-32 heading into intermission.
Neither team shot well for the game as A&M finished with a 34.4 (21-for-61) shooting percentage while MVSU had a 38.5 (25-for-65) clip. The Bulldogs also lost the battle of the boards 54-41.
The Devilettes recorded three players in double figures. Brown led her team with 17 points and eight boards. Kanesha Smith and Colby Stallings had 13 and 12, respectively. Kristen Ellis chipped in with eight points. MVSU improves to 7-15 overall and 4-6 in the SWAC.
The Bulldogs will host the WBCA's annual Pink Zone initiative during Monday's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The game is slated for 5:30 p.m.
