Bulldogs End Season With 60-49 Loss in SWAC Quarterfinals

Freshman Whiquitta Tobar scored a career-high 14 points

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Box Score / Katrich Williams led A&M with a game-best 16 points in a 60-49 quarterfinal loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC Tournament. Freshman point-guard Whiquitta Tobar tallied a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The Bulldogs were down 30-23 at the start of the second period, but A&M ripped of a 7-0 run to tie it up, 30-30, at the 17:19 mark. A&M took its first advantage of the game, 34-33, with 13:32 remaining in the second period. Pine Bluff pushed the spread to 41-36, capped by a Ciara Shields jumper. A three-pointer by Brittany Manning and a Tobar layup pulled the Bulldogs to within one, 41-40, at the 8:51 mark. A&M was unable to regain the advantage, however. The Alabama A&M women's basketball team ends its season with a 10-17 overall mark.

The Golden Lions held a 39-34 advantage on the glass over the Bulldogs for the game. A&M, however, scored 14 points off 26 total UAPB miscues. The Bulldogs finished with a 36 percentage from the floor, while Pine Bluff had a 37 percent clip.

Shay Holmes had 15 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action for the Lions. LaQuisha Slaton and Shields tallied 12 and 13 points, respectively. Arica Green chipped in with six points on the night. UAPB was 19-of-24 from the charity stripe for 79.2 percent.

In the first 20 minutes, Pine Bluff started the game with a 6-0 run. A Jenna Collier free-throw at the 17:15 mark broke the ice and put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. The Lions managed another run to hand A&M a 10 point deficit, 13-3, with 15:14 left. The Lions and Bulldogs battled back and forth for the remainder of the half as UAPB took a 28-23 lead into intermission.
