MONTGOMERY, AL > Box Score / Alabama A&M fought, scratched, and clawed all afternoon erasing two Alabama State double digit leads before the Hornets pulled away late to secure a 83-69 victory Saturday at the Acadome. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 10 in the first half, but rallied with a 17-3 run to build a four-point lead. Bama State responded to lead 34-30 at the intermission, and then built an 18-point advantage in the second half. Again, the Bulldogs responded, cutting the margin to four before the Hornets pulled away late.
Alabama A&M had four players in double figures, led by C.J. Hester and Evan Hilton with a dozen each. Maurice Kemp and Bo Amusa finished with 11 apiece. Amusa finished with a team-high eight rebounds as well. The difference in the game was the Hornets' 46-20 advantage on the boards. The A&M defense forced 18 turnovers and only committed nine in the game.
The loss drops Alabama A&M to 4-9 on the season and 1-4 in the SWAC. The Bulldogs will be in action again next Saturday at Southern.
