A&M Holds Off Prairie View, 59-54

Box Score / The Alabama A&M men's basketball team held off Prairie View, 59-54, for its third straight conference victory of the season. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 7-9 on the season and 4-4 in the conference. Cornelius Hester scored a team-high 14 points of 5-of-9 shooting from the field in 29 minutes of action. Jabari DeShields tallied 11 points off 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Bo Amusa chipped in with nine points, nine boards, and five swipes. A&M is back in action on Mon. Feb. 1 against Texas Southern beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs held as much as a 17 points cushion, 37-20, with just over three minutes left in the first stint. The Panthers went on a 7-2 run to close the half, for a 39-27 deficit heading into the lockerooms. In the second period, Prairie View cut it to seven, 47-40,with 12:45 remaining in regulation. A&M pushed the spread to 56-44 at the 8:42 mark. The Panthers brought themselves to within two, 56-54, but the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Three players scored in double figured for PVAM. Darnell Hugee led all scorers with 18 points. Dorian McDaniel and Duwan Kornegay tallied 11 points apiece. A&M won the battle of the boards, 59-54.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Mon. Feb. 1 against Texas Southern. The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
