NORMAL – The rivalry between Alabama A&M and Tuskegee University was renewed tonight as the Maroon & White men’s basketball team defeated the Golden Tigers 70-67 in front of 2,532 in attendance.
A&M (2-1) was led by freshman center Jerome Hunter and forward Bo Amusa with 14 points each. Hunter picked up his first double double of the season with 14 rebounds a season high. Guard Casey Cantey posted 11 rebounds while guard Desmond Jackson came off the bench and scored 11 points.
With the first level of Elmore Gymnasium full before the opening tip Tuskegee went on to outscore the Bulldogs 38-28 in points in the paint, 16-13 in points off turnovers, and 37-29 in bench points. A&M took the advantage in second chance points 21-14, in a game the saw the score tied 13 times with 14 lead changes.
A&M’s last FG was at the 1:10 mark while the Golden Tigers scored with 52 seconds left. Those were the final points of the contest for both teams. A&M and Tuskegee each shot 37% from the field with Tuskegee shooting 58% from the free-throw line and A&M 62%.
The Golden Tigers was led by Andrae Nelson who scored a game high 16 points.
Alabama A&M will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday, November 27 to tangle with the University of Alabama at 1:00 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
