NORMAL – The A&M men’s basketball squad heads to Birmingham, Alabama to tangle with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers on Sunday December, 19. The event is set for 7 p.m.
Alabama A&M comes into Sunday's contest sporting an overall record of 3-4 on the season. The Bulldogs dropped their second-straight contest, falling at Wichita State, 71-49, last Monday night. The defeat dropped AAMU to 0-3 in true road contests this season.
Senior guard Cornelius Hester, who has led the Bulldogs in scoring in four of their seven contests this year, comes into Sunday's contest leading his team with 12.6 points per game. Junior guard/ forward Casey Cantey is the only other Alabama A&M player to average double figures, checking in at 10.7 points a game.
Sophomore guard/forward Demarquelle Tabb leads the team in rebounding with 6.4 boards a game, while also contributing 8.4 ppg. Senior forward Bo Amusa averages 8.3 points a game and leads AAMU with 1.6 blocks an outing, while freshman center Jerome Hunter contributes 5.4 points and 5.7 rebounds a game.
As a team, Alabama A&M averages 66.6 points per game, while allowing the opposition 74.0 an outing. The Bulldogs have struggled shooting the ball in the early part of the season, connecting on 38.7 percent from the floor and 28.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Sunday's contest marks the seventh meeting in series history between UAB and Alabama A&M, all of which have come in Bartow Arena. The Blazers have won each of the previous six meetings - all by double digits. The closest contest over the previous six games was an 81-68 win on Dec. 20, 2003.
After a 14-day layoff between games - the longest in program history - the UAB men's basketball team will return to the hardwood when it hosts A&M on Sunday at Bartow Arena.
