NORMAL—The Alabama A&M men’s basketball team fell 74-68 to the Tigers of Tennessee State University in the first double header of the 2010-11 season in Elmore Gymnasium.
The Maroon & White (3-3) never led despite shooting 50% percent from the floor (27 of 55) and out-rebounding the Tigers 32-29.
The Tigers (3-6) led by as many as 15 with 11:16 remaining in the first half, but TSU took a 36-34 lead in the break. Tennessee State shot 56.5 percent in the opening half (13 of 23) and 28 of 59 for the game, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range for 64%.
Leading the way for Tennessee State was Robert Covington who scored a game high 20 points.
Junior guard Cornelius Hester scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Casey Cantey finished with nine and DeMarquelle Tabb added 13.
This was A&M’s final non-conference home game. Their next contest is set for Monday, December 13, when they travel to Wichita, Kansas to face the Wichita State University Shocks. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
