Box Score / The Alabama A&M men's basketball team cruised to a 65-54 win over Southern University at Elmore Gym on Sat. Feb. 20. Three players placed in double figures with Cornelius Hester leading the way with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Bo Amusa tallied 14 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in 31 minutes of action. Adam Young had a solid performance with 10 points and six rebounds. A&M sweeps the season series with Southern. The win improves the team to 6-7 in conference play. The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they host Alcorn for an 8 p.m. tip. The game is scheduled to air live on ESPNU.
A&M dominated the second half, leading by as many as 14 points, 53-39, at the 12:30 mark. Four straight Jaguar points trimed the advantage, but the Bulldogs pushed the spread to 62-46, with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. An 8-0 SU over a 1:30 span cut it to eight, 54-62, with just under a minute to play. Southern would get no closer than that, however.
For the Jaguars, Jameel Grace was a spark of the bench, leading the way with 15 points behind 3-of-5 shooting from the behind the arc. Julius Ingram tallied 14 points and seven boards in 23 minutes. Doug Scott finished with 11 points. The loss drops Southern to 2-12 in the SWAC.
As a team, the Bulldogs held a 45-33 advantage on the glass over the Jaguars. SU's bench, however, outscored A&M's bench 25-17.
The Bulldogs will host Alcorn on ESPNU beginning at 8 p.m.
