Box Score / The Bulldogs outscored the Jaguars 12-7 in the final five minutes, including five straight unanswered in the final 30 seconds to walk away with 65-62 victory at Elmore Gym on Sat. Feb. 20. Katrich Williams led A&M with 19 points, including a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Whiquitta Tobar had 14 points and seven assists in 28 minutes of action. Dominisha Johnson tallied 12 points and five boards. With the win, A&M improves to 13-9 overall and 9-4 in the SWAC. The Bulldogs host Alcorn on Mon. Feb. 22 beginning at 5 p.m.
In the second half, Southern held a 55-48 margin at the 5:29 mark. The Bulldogs chipped away at the advantage by scoring five straight off three Tobar freethrows and a Williams basket to bring themselves to within two, 57-55, with 2:54 left in regulation. The Jaguars responded with two buckets, by Jamie Floyd basket, but triple by Tobar and three subsequent Bulldog free throws gave A&M its first advantage of the game in the last 11 seconds. Williams pair at the line with two seconds remaining gave A&M a three point edge for the 65-62 final.
For Southern, Floyd finished with 14 points, while Hannah Kador had 13. The loss drops the Jaguars to 16-8 on the season and 10-4 in the SWAC.
The Bulldogs host Alcorn on Mon. Feb. 22. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. tip.
