Box Score / Alabama A&M men's basketball team was defeated in quarterfinal action in the SWAC Tournament with a 56-45 loss to Alabama State. The first half was a low-scoring affair as the Bulldogs shot 22.6 from the field (7-of-31), while the Hornets were held to a 38.5 shooting clip (10-of-26) for a 27-18 margin after the first 20. Cornelius Hester led A&M in the game with 13 points. The Bulldogs end the 2009-10 season with an 11-16 overall record.
A&M opened the second stint with a 7-0 run to trail 27-25 at the 17:56 mark, but would get no closer than that for the rest of the game, as ASU increased its cushion to as many as 14, 46-32, midway through the half. The Bulldogs were unable to hit a shot from behind the arc, as they were 0-12 for the game.
Bo Amusa tallied 11 points and pulled down a team-high eight off the glass. Casey Cantey chipped in with eight points and three thefts. As a team, the Bulldogs shot 14-for-53 from the floor (26.4 percent). The A&M defense forced 28 miscues that led to 21 points.
This marks the second-straight time A&M was defeated by Alabama State in the opening round of the SWAC tournament. Last year the Bulldogs fell 70-58.
