NORMAL – The game will go down in history as the final home contest for the Alabama A&M University men’s soccer team. It will also be remembered as a hard fought contest as the Bulldogs went into their first overtime in 2010 but allowed the game winning goal in overtime to fall 2-1 in their home finale.
The Bulldogs (0-7) lone goal came by way of a University of Central Arkansas ongoal as a shot from A&M’s senior Cesar Ramirez went off an opposing player who unintentionally knocked the ball in his own goal at the 83rd minute.
Neither team scored in the first half. Central Arkansas struck first in the second as the middle official whistled Bulldog goalie Rashad Hammonds for a foul in the penalty box. The Bears, Alex Parker, then put the ball in the upper right side of the goal to take a 1-0 lead. Ramirez goal came next to even the score and push the game into overtime. The first and only extra period of the season for the Bulldogs did not last long as UCA’s Wynne Mason hit the game winning goal off an assists from Alex Ghaffari at the 95th minute.
A&M drops their seventh straight contest and their final home game in the history of the program. The program has four contests remaining on their schedule including a matchup with the reigning national champions the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday, October 9.
