Lady Bulldogs Fall in Overtime Stunner

– The game was played like a number one versus a number two supposed to be played. The winner won by a five point margin. There were six lead changes and eight tie scores in the contest between Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs and the Southern University women’s basketball team. Unfortunately the Maroon and White came up short in their second straight loss 67-62.

A&M (9-8, 5-2 SWAC) was led by junior guard Whiquitta Tobar who posted her seventh twenty plus point game this season with 25. The Blytheville, Arkansas native also grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Brittany Strickland posted her sixth game with double digit points with 17 while Jasmine Sanders finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

The battle for first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference went as expected. Alabama A&M largest lead was seven at the 5:02 mark while Southern’s was six in the first half with 12:43 on the clock. The Lady Bulldogs outscored SU 18-16 in the paint but gave up 22 points off of 23 turnovers. A&M had the advantage in second chance points 12-8, while the top two teams in the conference tied with 13 bench points.

The Lady Bulldogs have only played in three overtime contest claiming only one victory versus Grambling earlier in the year.

This was the Lady Bulldogs second loss in seven tries in league play and their second straight.

The Jaguars were led by Hannah Kador with 22 points and Jamie Floyd with 12 and nine rebounds.

A&M will try to right the ship as they venture to Houston, Texas to battle the Texas Southern University Lady Tigers on Saturday, January 29th.   Game time is set for 2 p.m.
