NORMAL – The Alabama A&M football team extended their winning streak to four games with a 37-14 victory over the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University on Homecoming 2011 on “The Hill”.

“We got a chance to play a lot of people,” said head coach Anthony Jones.  “I wanted our guys to come out ready to play football and that’s what we did with Corey Hart’s fumble recovery for a touchdown.  That got us going.”

Senior defensive end Corey Hart scooped up a fumble recovery on Mississippi Valley’s second play from scrimmage to score a 33 yard touchdown, a first in his career.  Four minutes later junior running back Kaderius Lacey scored his fifth TD of the season with a two yard run.  Then, with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, junior quarterback Deaunte Mason hit junior wide receiver G’Alonzo Milton for their sixth passing TD to give A&M their most points in the first quarter and the largest lead of the season 21-0.

The second quarter saw Mason connect with redshirt freshman Terrance Pride for his first touchdown reception, an 11 yard catch to push the score to 28-0.

The Delta Devils would finally get on the board at the 9:33 mark with an eight play, 71 yard drive that ended with a Joseph Hardnett pass reception for a TD.
A&M was not done scoring as Mason hit junior tight end Kenneth Harris for a 27 yard touchdown pass, his first of the season and second of his career.  It was the final touchdown in the game for the Maroon & White.

Before the half ended the defense put a stamp of approval on the contest with their first safety on the year by leading tackler Willie Fuller, his first of his career.

As the half ended the Alabama A&M Bulldogs were up 37-7 their largest lead of any opponent since the Louis Crews Classic of 2010.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter when Delta Devils got on the board one last time.  With 8:54 remaining in the game, MVSU’s quarterback Garrick Jones completed a 16 yard pass reception to Kenneth Dabney for Valley’s second and final TD of homecoming 2011.

“I wasn’t out here to embarrass anybody and I wasn’t going to run up the score,” Jones mentioned.  “We got an opportunity to see different players in certain positions and get an easy win and remain healthy.  That’s what we wanted to do and we did.”

Mason led all rushers with 38 yards on eight carries while Lacey finished the game with 36 yards on 18 touches.  Mason went 16 of 26 with three touchdowns in two quarters and two plays of action in the second half.  Junior transfer David Isabelle saw his first snaps under center finishing two of five passing for 29 yards and 34 yards rushing on four carries.  Redshirt freshman Montaurius Smith led all A&M receivers with five catches for 57 yards.

Fuller led all players with nine tackles and two sacks for eight yards lost.  Hart ended his sixth contest on “The Hill’ with five tackles, a sack for 14 yards, a force fumble and a fumble recovery for a 33 yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs will have a short week as they welcome Texas Southern University to a Thursday night contest on October 13, at 6:30 p.m. “Live on ESPNU”.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the A&M ticket office.
