Jackson State ends Bulldogs win streak

Box Score

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M Bulldog football team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 34-6 on Senior Day at Louis Crews stadium on Saturday, November 12.

In the most penalized game this season for A&M, the Maroon & White caught 12 flags for 77 yards and could not find any offense as they totaled 301 yards on 58 yards rushing and 243 passing.  The rushing numbers were a season low for a team that is ranked second in the conference and 25th in the NCAA.

Junior Chance Wilson was the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs as he broke an eight year old record with a 49 yard field goal to put A&M up 3-0.  Wilson then hit a 45 yard field goal to add to the A&M lead.  That was the last time the Bulldogs would score on the day.

JSU quarterback Casey Therriault took over from there posting 428 yards on 23 of 41 passing with four touchdowns.  Most of Therriault’s numbers came from the 10 different receivers he hit only throwing the ball pass 15 yards six times in the game.  The remaining numbers were a result of receivers getting yards after the catch.

Alabama A&M starting quarterback Deaunte Mason was harassed all day getting sack three times and flushed out of the pocket on several occasions.  Mason did finish with 243 yards passing on 18 of 46 attempts a season high.  His favorite target was junior David Isabelle who finished with seven receptions for 78 yards.  The running game was none existence as Mason was the leading rusher with 33 yards on 11 carries.  Terrell Badie totaled 19 yards on three carries.

Red-shirt freshman Terrance Pride posted 104 all-purpose yards with 23 receiving and 78 yards on two kick returns.  Montauirus Smith posted 80 yards with 28 yards receiving and 50 on three kick returns.

Leading the way defensively for the Bulldogs was Vernon Marshall, Willie Fuller and Derrick Harris who each totaled eight tackles.  Defensive lineman Corey Hart ended with seven stops with three for a loss of eight yards and a sack.  Senior Markeit Cliatt posted seven tackles with a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

Fortunately for A&M, Southern University defeated the Alabama State Hornets 26-23 to keep the Anthony Jones led squad alive in the Eastern Division race for a chance to advance to the SWAC championship.  The loss for State and A&M has them tied with two losses each with the Bulldogs in control of the tie breaker.

Seniors Markeit Cliatt, Willie Fuller, Corey Hart, Anthony Jackson, Clarence Morris, Rico Porch, Carlos Tolbert and Addison Walker all were recognized before the game as they participated in their final home game on “The Hill”.
