South Alabama trips up A&M

Box Score

MOBILE – The Alabama A&M Bulldogs fell 67-44 to the South Alabama Jaguars on Saturday night in the Mitchell Center.

South Alabama got quickly out of the gate, taking a 29-14 halftime lead. The Maroon & White (2-3), starting point guard Jeremy Crutcher was the only Bulldog in double figures with 11 points. A&M was ice cold from beyond the 3-point arc shooting 2 for 17 for the game.

The first half was not kind for A&M as they shot 5 of 27 from the field while the Jaguars shot 42%.

The second half went just the opposite as the Bulldogs shooting improved but the officiating went soar.  Five offensive foul calls and two free-throw attempts helped USA out-score A&M 38-30.    Alabama A&M shot 42% but continued to struggle from the three-point line.

“I don’t think it was them putting us under pressure. I just think we executed poorly,” said head coach Willie Hayes. “We had some opportunities, we missed a lot of front ends of one-and-ones where we could’ve gotten some points, but we have to put ourselves in a position to score.”

“South Alabama team is pretty good. If they keep playing the way they’re playing they are going to do some damage,” Hayes mentioned.

Alabama A&M will be off the next 15 days for finals and return to the court on Saturday, December 17, when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to challenge the Wolverines to a 12:00 p.m. tip-off.
