NORMAL – The Alabama A&M Bulldogs dropped a 73-61 decision to conclude Saturday night’s double header in Elmore Gymnasium against Texas Southern University.

The Bulldogs struggled to gain a lead throughout the second half shooting 32 percent from the field (21-65) and 48% from the free throw line (11-23). The Tigers out-scored A&M shooting 53% (22-43) from the field and 65% (25-36) from the free throw line.

A&M got into foul trouble late in the second half with 10 fouls, while the TSU maintained their composure with only five fouls at the eight minute mark. Turnovers played a big part tonight as A&M committed six turnovers with 7:56 remaining compared to Texas Southern’s two.

TSU out-scored the Maroon & White 24-20 in points in the paint, and bench points 47-24 in a game that saw four lead changes.  The Bulldogs did have some positive things by out-scoring the Tigers 13-9 in points in the paint and 14-13 in points off turnovers. They also won the turnover battle committing only 16 to Texas Southern’s 21.

Diamon Alexander’s three pointer at the 6:47 mark was the last time A&M would score in the game.  The Bulldogs shot 0-11 from the field with their final three points coming from the free-throw line.

Cantey led A&M with 18 points and eight rebounds followed by Demarquelle Tabb with 12 points and eight rebounds.
TSU’s Fred Sturdivant led all scorers with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Alabama A&M will be back in action on Monday, January 30, as they face the Prairie View A&M Panthers.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
