A&M Basketball opens SWAC play at Jackson State

NORMAL -- It’s been a Jekyll-and-Hyde season for the Bulldogs (2-7) so far.

A&M won two of their first three games while averaging 79.3 points, although the two victories came against non-Division I opponents.

Since then, A&M has lost six straight heading into conference play and cracked 60 points only once during that six-game span.

The Bulldogs are leaning pretty hard on the duo of Casey Cantey and Jeremy Crutcher. The team’s two top scorers are responsible for almost 40 percent of their team’s total output.

Poor shooting chased the Maroon & White into the start of conference play. Alabama A&M shot a collective 136 of 349 from the field in its final six non-conference games, to the tune of 38.9 percent.

The women’s team has been led by All-American candidate Whiquitta Tobar who is averaging 20.9 points a game.  In the ten total contests, Tobar has been the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs including posting a season high 29 points versus Murray State.

As a team A&M (5-5) is averaging 61.1 points per game while allowing 64.  The Altherias Warmley squad is shooting 37 percent from the field 32% from the three point line and 68 percent from the charity stripe.

Bulldog fans can listen to the men’s game live on WJAB 90.9.  Pregame is set for 7 p.m.
