A&M Falls to MVSU 81-69

Box Score

NORMAL – There was no redemption for Bulldog fans as the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team fell 81-69 to the Devils of Mississippi Valley State University in the second game of Monday night’s double header.

Both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half but it was Valley that held a 36-34 lead at the half and extended it to a nine point lead by the 17 minute mark in the second half.

In a game that saw five lead changes and four ties, the Bulldogs could not match the Devils intensity as Valley outscored A&M 41-28 in points in the paint, 14-5 in points off turnovers, 17-4 in second chance points, and 15-5 in fast break scores.

The only category the Maroon & White won was bench points with a 34-20 advantage.

This was A&M's first home loss in four tries this season.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Green Hill with a season high 17 points on seven of 11 shooting. Casey Cantey was the only other Bulldog to score in double figures with 15 points and five rebounds.

The annual meeting with in-state rival Alabama State University serves as the next opponent for A&M.  The contest is set for Saturday, January 14, in Montgomery, Alabama. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
