Bulldogs crack Top 25 for first time since 2006

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M Bulldogs cracked the NCAA coaches’ poll for the first time since 2006 when they were 2-0.

A&M is riding a six game win streak after a 35-0 thrashing of Mississippi Valley State University.  As a team the Bulldogs rank third in rushing (178.5), third in passing (200.17), second in total offense (378.67), second in scoring offense (29.67), third in rushing defense (153.00), first in pass efficiency defense (83.29), second in total defense (300.83), first in scoring defense (12.67), third in punt returns (11.00), third in kickoff returns (18.65), first in turnover margin (1.50) also 8th in the nation, first in pass defense (147.83) also 6th nationally, first in passing efficiency (161.87) also 6th nationally, fourth in sacks (1.67), fourth in tackles for loss (6.50) and second in sacks allowed 1.50) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Leading the second best team in black college football is quarterback Deaunte Mason.  The Nashville, native has been named the SWAC player of the week for four straight weeks.  Mason ranks 6th nationally in passing efficiency (165.43).  He has eight rushing touchdowns and ten passing TD’s in the last four contests played.

The Maroon & White are off to their best start in head coach Anthony Jones 11 year career at the helm of the Bulldogs.  This is also the schools best start in football since the 1966 season when the then head coach Louis Crews went 8-1.

Alabama A&M will look for their seventh straight victory when they welcome Alcorn State University to “The Hill” for Homecoming 2012.
