Bulldogs to Host Hornets

NORMAL -- The Alabama A&M Bulldogs’ basketball teams will battle their conference rival the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. for the women and 5:30 p.m. for the men in the annual NCAA Pack the House Challenge.
 
A&M is led by senior All-American candidate Whiquitta Tobar, who is currently ranked in the top ten in five different statistical categories in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.  Tobar leads the league in scoring (19.3), third in assists (3.4), fourth in minutes (33.8), third in free throw percentage (.818) and seventh in steals (2.1).

The Lady Bulldogs enter the contest coming off a 73-44 loss from the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State Monday night.
 
The Maroon and White (11-10, 6-5 SWAC) was led by Whiquitta Tobar who posted 13 points, six rebounds and pair of assists. Junior Nedra Robertson finished the night with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
 
The Lady Hornets are led by Danielle Gazaway with 9.7 points per contest. Quentori Alford leads in rebounds averaging 7.8 boards per game.

As for the men’s team senior Casey Cantey scored a game high of 20 points as the Bulldogs fell to Mississippi Valley 78-64. With the loss the Bulldogs dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the SWAC.

The Hornets are led by Kenderek Washington with 14.1 ppg. Ivory White is averaging 5.7 boards per contest.
 
Last season 4,368 people attended the annual tradition between the in-state rivals.

NCAA Division I Pack the House Challenge
"Pack the House" is a national effort in which conferences and institutions compete to build attendance. One winner from each of the 31 conferences and one from a group of independent institutions will be named. The NCAA will award prizes and donate money to the nonprofit organization of each winning institution's choice.
