Bulldogs defeat Alcorn State 81-71

NORMAL, Ala. (AP)—Casey Cantey scored 21 points on 57% shooting in 23 minutes and Jeremy Crutcher 20 as Alabama A&M came back from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Alcorn State 81-71 Monday night.

The Bulldogs (6-17, 4-10 SWAC) used sheer size to create more opportunities to score with a total of 14 offensive rebounds to seven by Alcorn State. Three-pointers were a huge key to winning for A&M, with 15 points coming from three-point range compared to nine for Alcorn State. The Maroon & White had one of its better performances in points. It registered 81 for the game and destroyed its 62.9 season average.

Cantey got 16 of his points in the second half, including 10 during an 18-8 run that gave the Bulldogs a 72-62 lead with 2:55 remaining after the game was tied for the 10th time. There were 15 lead changes in the game, a season high.

This marks the 15th 20-point game of Casey Cantey's career.

Demarquelle Tabb added 17 points and 11 rebounds for A&M, which shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) in the second half after making 32.1 percent (9 of 28) in the opening 20 minutes. He also recorded the 9th double digit rebound game of his career.

Twann Oakley and Anthony Nieves scored 14 points each for the Braves (8-18, 5-9).

AAMU has won 100% of the time this season (4-0) when opponents record 27 or fewer rebounds. Cantey and Crutcher accounted for 50.6% of the points.

The last time AAMU recorded at least 28 free throws made was Jan 09, 2010 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Bulldogs have now swept the Braves, having beaten them earlier this season, 65-64. Alcorn is the only conference opponent AAMU has swept this season.

The final regular season outing for A&M will be vs. Prairie View A&M on the road on February 25^th then Texas Southern on February 27^th.
