A&M fails to close out Prairie View

Box Score

NORMAL – Alabama A&M continued to play the part of a tale of two halves as they shot 48 percent in the first half but 28% in the second falling to Prairie View A&M University 60-52 Saturday night.

The Panthers (12-16, 8-7 SWAC) overcame an early 24-8 deficit, and trailed 52-49 before PV’s Louis Munks’ 3-pointer tied it with 3:53 to play. Munks made a pair of free throws with 3:10 left to put Prairie View ahead for the first time in the game and eventually
the win.

A&M continues to not be a good team on the road, but the Panthers had no momentum and had lost three of their last five. The Bulldogs had already seen the Prairie View this year and had beaten them 64-54.

There was a big gap in offensive rebounding with PV tallying 16 offensive boards compared to eight by the Bulldogs. The Panthers outscored A&M at the charity stripe, 19-6.

The Bulldogs (6-18, 4-11) missed their last three shots and a pair of free throws to go scoreless down the stretch.

Brandon Ellis was the only Bulldog in double figures with 19 points in 31 minutes, including 15 from beyond the 3-point arc. Demarquelle Tabb led all players with 10 rebounds.

The Maroon & White will look for win number seven when they visit Texas Southern on Monday, February 27th.  Opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
