AAMU Basketball Travels to Mississippi Valley

NORMAL - The Alabama A&M men’s and women’s basketball teams opened the Southwestern Athletic Conference slate at home. Both teams will take their 2-0 league record on the road to Itta Bena, Mississippi to face the Devilettes and Devils, on Sunday January 6th.

The Maroon and White cruised to a 66-48 victory over Jackson State in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium on Friday night.
Jasmine Sanders led AAMU (3-9, 2-0) recording 14 points and nine rebounds while hitting 5-of-7 from the field. NaDra Robertson pulled in 10 rebounds and Shundray Davis accounted for six assists.

Valley (4-8, 1-0 SWAC) with stood its shortcomings and defeated the Golden Lions 71-64 at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in its first conference game of the season.

Davina Jefferson had 12 points on 6-of-7 shots for Valley while Frank and Deirta Silas chipped in nine each.
The Devilettes and Lady Bulldogs will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

It took double overtime for the Bulldogs to defeat Jackson State 88-87. A&M improved to 6-7 and 2-0 in the league while despite a game effort, JSU fell to 1-10 and 0-2.

A&M guard Green Hill led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Justin Wagner added 15 points off the bench, while Crutcher finished with 14 points and seven assists. Justan Banks and Demarquelle Tabb each contributed 10 points for A&M. Tabb also had eight rebounds and two blocks.

Mississippi Valley State fell 79-64 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday in its conference opener. UAPB's Terrell led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-14 shots. Lazabian Jackson, who made 4-of-9 three's, finished with 16 while Marcel Mosley chipped in 10.

The men’s game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at the Harrison HPER Complex.
