Auburn women’s basketball earns win in Elmore

Box Score
NORMAL – The new look women's basketball team on "The Hill" opened their second home contest of the Semeka Randal era, versus Auburn University down 4-0. That lead was quickly cut into as the quicker Bulldogs went on a 7-4 run before the first media timeout.

The game would remain close until the 15:12 mark with the Tigers up three, 15-12. That's when the gates opened and saw Auburn began a 14 point run that would not stop until the 6:50 mark when Alyssa Strickland hit a three-pointer to score A&M's first basket in over nine minutes.

The first half continued to be all Auburn as they controlled the front and back court creating turnovers with their 1-2-2 full court defensive pressure. Then scoring inside and out to the tune of 50 percent from the field and a 32-7 rebounding advantage. Auburn held a 43-22 lead after the first 20 minutes.

The second half looked similar to the first as the Tigers opened the scoring again with a lay-up on the inside by Peyton Davis. They continued their offense onslaught by outscoring AAMU on a 19-10 run with over eight minutes remaining 63-32.

A&M did however hold AU to 34 points while scoring 27 on 10 of 23 shooting from the field. They were 50% from the three point line going six of 12.

Auburn, however, would end up cruising to a 77-44 victory, due to the first half, staying perfect in their second trip to Elmore.

Alganese Gatson led the Bulldogs with 11 points while Strickland posted 10. The Tigers were led by Tyrese Tanner with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Davis finished with 17 points and 12 boards.

Alabama A&M will take five days off before they head to Tuscaloosa to face the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama on Monday, November 25. Action tips-off at 7:00 p.m.
