WHY UAB WON: UAB didn't shoot well, but outrebounded Alabama A&M 51-37 and got to the line (17-of-22) more than the Bulldogs (7-of-11). The Blazers had a key stretch in the first half of about seven minutes where it turned a close game into a 15-point lead.

WHY AAMU LOSS: A&M did not hist their shots like they needed to in the first half and gave up to many offensive rebounds (23).

KEY MOMENT: Alabama A&M cut the lead to 57-50 and it looked like AAMU's Demarquelle Tabb swatted a Jordan Swing shot with 4:15 left, but Ted Valentine called a foul. Swing hit two free throws. Rob Williams hit two free throws at 3:31 and AAMU turned it over on an offensive foul on the next possession. Tabb fouled out at the 3:02 mark. UAB did go on a 17-3 run early in the game to turn an 9-8 lead into a 26-11 lead and maintained around a 10-point lead for most of the game.

TOP UAB PLAYER: C.J. Washington led UAB with 19 points and six rebounds.

UAB SUPPORTING CAST: Three others scored in double figures for UAB. Jordan Swing scored 11, Fahro Alihodzic sscored 10 and Robert Williams scored 12. UAB's Chad Frazier had an off game shooting (2-of-14) and Rod Rucker mysteriously didn't play in the first half, but scored a point in the second.

TOP ALABAMA A&M PLAYER: Demarquelle Tabb posted his second double double this season with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  This also accounts for his 25th double double of his career.

AAMU SUPPORTING CAST: Two others scored in double figures for AAMU. Nicholas West scored 11 and posted 5 blocks a season high, Jeremy Crutcher scored 14. Fresman Rakiya Battle added 7 points in 18 minutes of action his most this season.

KEY STAT: UAB shot just 34.3 percent from the field and Alabama A&M shot 35.9.

UP NEXT: UAB (10-3) hosts Newberry (S.C.) College on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. Alabama A&M (3-7) is at Jackson State on Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m.
