Basketball to host MVSU



Normal- In their second Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader in T.M. Elmore Gymnasium, Bulldog basketball will face off versus the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State. Action will begin at 5:30 pm on Monday, January 13.
 
Monday night's contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. when the Maroon and White women, riding high off their first SWAC win, host the 4-9 (2-0 SWAC) Devilettes.
 
The visitors from Itta Bena, Miss. enter the contest coming off a two-point victory over the Lady Hornets of Alabama State Saturday afternoon. MVSU was successful in a come from behind 56-54 victory down in Montgomery, Ala. Jasmyne Sanders, who led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, guided Valley to the win. Sanders added seven rebounds and three steals in 40-minutes of action.
 
The home team is coming off a huge 87-63 victory over the Lady Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. A&M earned the first SWAC win for new leader Randall, in convincing fashion. Senior Alyssa Strickland led the Maroon and White to victory with a game high 20 points shooting 7 of 7 for the game (6-6 from distance).  A&M connected on a season high 11 three-pointers for the first time in Division I history.
 
In the second half of Monday' nights conference action, the Bulldog men (5-8, 2-1 SWAC) coming off their first conference loss of the season will take on the 4-11(0-2 SWAC) Delta Devils.
 
Nicholas West scored 14 points while G.A. Hill and Demarquelle Tabb added 11 for the Maroon and White. The Bulldogs leading scorer, Jeremy Crutcher, scored four points playing 25 minutes before fouling out in the loss. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back to their winning ways versus MVSU beginning at 7:30 p.m.
 
The visitors will enter action after a disappointing 31-point loss at the hands of the Alabama State Hornets.  In defeat, Jeffrey Simmons scored 15 points and Daniel Hurtt added 11 to lead Valley. Over all, in 40-minutes of action MVSU shot under 34 percent from the field, hitting 24-of-71, and converted just 3-of-20 baskets from long range.
