A&M to open SWAC Play

NORMAL -- Alabama A&M opens SWAC play with a visit to Jackson State on January 4, at 5:30 p.m., in the Lee E. Williams Athletic Assembly Center.

The Bulldogs are 3-7 overall, and has been idle since a 69-57 loss to the University of Alabama in Birmingham to wrap up its non-conference schedule on Dec. 29.

Demarquelle Tabb was the high scorer for the Bulldogs in the UAB contest with 18 points.  Two others scored in double figures for AAMU.  Nicholas West scored 11 and posted five blocks a season high while Jeremy Crutcher posted 14.

Jackson State men's basketball team enters Saturday's game with a 4-8 record. The Tigers come into their first league match with first year coach Wayne Brent at the helm. JSU has been competitive in its non-conference games. The Tigers have loss only four games by double digits.

Julysses Nobles leads the team in scoring (17.1 ppg); BJ West leads the team in rebounding and blocked shots (11.3 rpg and 29 blocks). JSU averages 64.3 ppg and allows 70.1. The Tigers also average 35.8 rpg and allows 34.8.

Jackson State has the upper hand on the Bulldogs leading the series 20-12. JSU won the last meeting (Mar. 2, 2013) 60-57. Since the 2009-10 season, JSU holds a 6-2 record.
