Four Bulldogs score in double figures vs. Valley

GREENWOOD, Miss. -  Brittney Strickland scored 12 points while Jasmine Sanders and Alganese Gatson each chipped in 10, as Alabama A&M fell to Mississippi Valley State, 68-56 on Monday night.

Gatson hit all three of her three-point attempts going three for four from behind the arc. Taylor Sippial scored 14 points, while Sanders grabbed six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

AAMU (3-17, 1-9 SWAC) was 7 of 24 from the floor in the first half, but made up for it at the charity stripe shooting 13 for 17 (76 percent). As a team the Bulldogs finish 18 for 26 on the evening.

Valley (7-15, 6-5 SWAC) went almost eight minutes between field goals and almost 12 minutes with just one. Their last field goal in the first was at the 5:25 mark when A&M went to the free-throw line and birth a 13-3 run to cut the Deviletts advantage 29-28 which allowed MVSU a one point lead at halftime.

Three minutes into the second half. A&M tied the game at 31-all with a three pointer from Gatson, but Valley quickly called a timeout to regroup.  A&M took its first lead of the contest on a lay-up by Sanders leading 33-31 with 17:27 on the clock. From there the home team took control.

After two missed shots, by A&M, Valley went on a run to extend their lead 48-34.  They would continue that trend grabbing a victory at home.

AAMU was 9 of 32 (29 percent) in the second half and shot 29 percent for the game. MVSU had 20 turnovers but outrebounded A&M 37-32.

The Maroon & White won the points off turnovers battle 19-13, second chance points 10-7 and bench points 20-17.

Valley was led by their version of Jasyme Sanders with 14 points.  A'Shanti Weathers scored 12 points while Ashley Neals added 10.

The Maroon and White will return home to face arch rival the Lady Hornets of Alabama State, on Saturday, February 15. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m., in Elmore gymnasium.
