Southern invades Elmore Gymnasium

NORMAL – Men's basketball will play its next two games in the friendly confines of T.M. Elmore, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday against Southern University.
 
The Bulldogs play four of their next six games at home, where they are 5-2 this season overall, and 4-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference contests.

A&M is 10-12 overall, 7-5 in the conference, following Saturday's 68-65 overtime win against Alabama State.  Jeremy Crutcher scored a career high 27 points to lead his team over their in-state rival.
 
Southern, 15-11 overall and 11-2 in the SWAC, comes to Normal on the heels of an 83-74 win against Mississippi Valley State on Monday. Southern is 8-6 on the road this season, including a 5-1 mark at conference venues.
 
The Bulldogs are ranked fourth in the league in scoring defense (68.5 ppg). They have held 13 opponents under 40 percent from the field, and have held 10 teams to less than 60 points.
 
A&M has averaged just 67.4 points and shot 46 percent from the floor (31% in three pointers) in its six games at Elmore this year and has been outscored by 12.6 points per game in the two slip ups.
 
Southern ranks second in the league in scoring defense (62.9 ppg), but tenth in free throw percentage (62%) and fourth in 3-point defense (33.9%). The Jaguars are fourth in scoring offense (71.6 ppg) and second in field goal percentage (45.2%).
