Sanders enters the 1000 point club

NORMAL -- Senior forward Jasmine Sanders secured he place among the greats as she scored her 1000th point vs Southern University.

Sanders led the team with 21 points and came one rebound shy of a double double with nine.  The Chester, South Carolina native also secured four assists and three steals in 35 minutes of action.  This was her 15th game with double digit points and second in the twenty plus point column.

Brittney Strickland continued her hot streak scoring 20 points for the 20th time this year and 10th in the 20 plus point category. Her sister Alyssa secured 17 points for her 11th occasion in the double digit point column.

The game would be exciting to the end as A&M stayed in the contest until the very end.  The matchup saw 10 ties and six lead changes between the Bulldogs and the Jaguars.

A&M won the points off turnovers battle 23-15 and the fast break points 10-4.

Neither held a lead bigger than 10 points in the first.  Southern secured that advantage at the 6:41 mark but the Bulldogs found a way to battle back going on an 18-9 run that was sparked by an Ebony Johnson jumper.

The second half was much like the first with both teams exchanging the lead and baskets.  The Maroon & White even enjoyed a seven point lead 58-51 at the 15:49 mark. It wasn't until 7:59 remained on the clock when it seemed karma happened as A&M would be outscored 18-9 through the remaining of the game resulting in a 94-82 win for the Jaguars.

Jasmine Jefferson scored 27 to lead the Jaguars while Kendra Coleman added 22. Britney Washington also contributed with 19 points.

The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to Monday, February 24, when they host Alcorn State on the SWAC Digital Network beginning at 5:30 p.m.
