Men's Basketball allows Alcorn to slip by

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M Bulldog basketball team suffered a setback Monday night falling to Alcorn State 64-56.
 
Play began slowly, with neither team dominating the other offensively. By the first media timeout (15:45), A&M held a one point lead at 5-4. Out of the break, the Maroon & White began to develop a slight lead over the visiting Braves of Alcorn State University.  The Bulldogs play allowed them to gain a 19-9 lead over the next seven minutes and forced ASU Head Coach Luther Riley to call his first timeout.
 
Out of the break, the Maroon and White continued to increase their lead and play comfortably. With five minutes remaining, they would hold a 26-17 lead. The visitors would try to close the gap with little success. Prior to the half time break A&M would go up by as big as 17 before taking a 12 point lead at 35-23 into the intermission.
 
Leading the Bulldogs offensive efforts was Nicholas West with 10 points. Seven other Bulldogs bucketed points to aid West. The Maroon & White defense forced nine Alcorn turnovers and generated nine points off turnovers.
 
The A&M bench outscored the Braves bench helping A&M maintain their lead.
 
The first eight minutes of the second period, saw the Bulldogs continue to dominate play and maintain the momentum they built in the first period. They would enjoy a double-digit lead until the halfway point of the second period when Alcorn cut their deficit to four at 47-43.
 
The Braves would tie the game (48-48) at the 7:44 and go on to take a six-point lead with 3:30 left to go. Despite an increased effort from the Maroon & White, the Braves went on to take a 64-56 victory.  
                                                                                                                                  
Game leaders for the Bulldogs include West with 13 points and Demarquelle Tabb who tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench.  
 
A&M led the turnover battle forcing 15 to ASU's 10 and the battle of the benches outscoring the Braves subs 27-10.
 
The Bulldogs will be back in action March 1, when they take on Prairie View A&M in Houston, Texas.
