Bulldogs complete sweep of Jackson State

NORMAL – The men's basketball team completed the season sweep of Jackson State University 72-59 Thursday evening in Elmore.

Brandon Ellis scored a season high 19 points and Jeremy Crutcher added 16 points and nine assists.

Arthur Capers and Justan Banks added 13 points apiece and Banks also had a season-high 13 rebounds along with four blocks for the Bulldogs (12-15, 9-8).  This was Banks first double double of the year and his fifth of his career.

Javeres Brent led the Tigers (11-18, 7-10) with 11 points.

Alabama A&M led the entire way. They had a 38-27 lead at halftime that would extend to 17 with 3:55 left in the game.

Though the Bulldogs were edged 37-35 in rebounding, they still outscored Jackson State 24-12 in the paint and 9-6 in points off turnovers.

Alabama A&M shot 43.1 percent (22 of 51) for the game and 82.1 percent (23 of 28) from the free-throw line.

Jackson closed the scoring gap 55-50 at the 11:27 mark.  A&M then turned up the defensive pressure allowing the Tigers to score nine more while they added 17 on their way to taking their 12th win of the year.

Jackson State managed just 16-of-51 shooting for 31.4 percent.

The Bulldogs will host Grambling State on Saturday, March 8, on senior night and the regular season finale. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
