Gameday: Bulldogs at Texas Southern

HOUSTON -- The Bulldogs hope to take a step up the ladder in the SWAC East Division standings today when they take the field at BBVA Compass Stadium to face Texas Southern.

Alabama A&M and Alcorn State are tied at 1-2, just behind Jackson State at 1-1.

Texas Southern, of the SWAC West, is 2-1 in the conference. The Tigers, who lost to Prairie View A&M three weeks ago, are coming off back-to-back wins over Mississippi Valley and Alabama State.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 10-3 and defeated the Tigers 38-7 last year at Louis Crews Stadium.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. and the game can be heard on WJAB-FM 90.9 and wjab.org with the pregame show starting at 6:30.

Freshman running back Jordan Bentley has 302 yards rushing – good for 34^th in the nation among FCS players and No. 2 among FCS freshmen. He is second in the SWAC in rushing yards (302) and rushing yards per game (75.5). His 62-yard TD run is the longest in the conference this season.
While ranking No. 1 in the SWAC, the Bulldogs are 14^thamong FCS schools in fewest penalty yards per game (41.5). Also nationally we are 30^th in fewest total penalty yards (166) and 33^rd in fewest penalties per game (6).
Juaquin Davis is second in the conference and 27^th in the nation in kickoff returns, averaging 25.4 yards a return – he trails league-leader Willie Quinn's 25.8 yards per return. Davis's 93-yard touchdown return against Quinn's Southern team is the second-longest in the SWAC this season and eighth longest in the nation.
