Bulldogs drop Homecoming game to Alcorn State

HUNTSVILLE -- The Bulldogs struck for two touchdowns in the final minute of the first half Saturday but Alcorn State put three touchdowns on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter for a 42-19 win over Alabama A&M.

A&M trailed 14-3 late in the second quarter when De'Angelo Ballard capped a six-play, 82-yard drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Dorsey with 54 seconds left in the half.

Then, the Braves took over on their own 26 after the ensuing kickoff. On the first play, A&M's Yurik Bethune intercepted a pass and set the Bulldogs up with a first down on the Alcorn 23.

Ballard and Dorsey combined on a 23-yard touchdown pass as 6-7 tight end outbattled a pair of Alcorn defenders for the ball and the score to put A&M up 16-14 with 29 second left in the half.

However, the Braves put a touchdown on the board in the third quarter while Nick Carden - who had a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter - had a 34-yarder in the third quarter.

Alcorn, who led 21-19 entering the fourth quarter, put the game away with three touchdowns in a span of 9 1/2 minutes.

The Bulldogs will visit Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Oct. 15.
