BOWLING GREEN, Ky.---
The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team opens the 2016-17 regular season Friday evening with a 7:00 p.m. showdown against the hosting school Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY.

"Opening with Western Kentucky is going to be a little emotional for me being that I spent three seasons there," Head Coach Margaret Richards said. "They have an outstanding program and I'm very excited to get back on top of the hill and I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces."

After traveling to WKU, the Lady Bulldogs will make two short trips to Murray State (Nov. 14) and the University of North Carolina (Nov. 17).

The regular season home opener comes on Nov. 22 as they host Concordia College before heading to Tuscaloosa for a Nov. 27 showdown with the University of Alabama.

"Although the non-conference schedule is tough, I believe it will be beneficial for our girls since we are a very young team," Coach Richards said. "I see progress every day in practice and I look forward to watching these young ladies grow each game."

On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Lady Bulldogs will welcome Oakwood College to T.M. Elmore Gym for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff and the Maroon and White will take on Samford in Birmingham on Dec. 3. They will close out 2016 with a pair of road games, facing off against Southeast Missouri State (Dec. 19) in Cape Girardeau, MO before closing out the non-conference slate at University of Evansville (Dec. 21) in Evansville, IN.

"We will learn from our mistakes and continue to build what we have going here," Coach Richards Stated.  "We are working hard and we look forward to preparing for the SWAC season."

The Lady Bulldogs return to action in the new year at home in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, hosting Jackson State on Jan. 2 and Grambling State on Jan. 4.  AAMU will face each league team twice in the double round-robin slate, with its final away game wrapping up the regular season on Saturday, Mar. 4 versus Grambling State. The SWAC Women's Basketball Championship will be held in conjunction with the Men's Basketball Championship in Houston, Tex. on Mar. 6-11.
