Lady Bulldogs Fall at UNC

Chapel Hill, N.C. --- Freshman Jameica Cobb finished with her first double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as AAMU lost 80-35 to North Carolina in Carmichael Arena on Thursday night.

North Carolina improves to 2-0 while AAMU falls to 0-3.

Cobb led the Lady Bulldogs with a career-high 25 points while shooting 11-of-26 from the field. She also pulled down 11 rebounds and managed one steal. Freshman Alisha Davis had six rebounds and four points, followed by Lauren McKee, Josta Totten and La'Kashia Hill with two points each. McKee led A&M with five assists and Hilary Williams followed with three.

The Tar Heels opened the contest on a 6-0 run before Cobb got the Lady Bulldogs on the board with a layup at the 8:37 mark in the first quarter. Cobb was fouled on the layup and hit her first free throw followed by a fast break layup in the paint to bring A&M within nine. Despite the Lady Bulldogs efforts, UNC went on a 6-4 run for a 22-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

UNC opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run, taking a 28-12 lead before a Cobb jumper at the 4:21 mark made the score 28-14. Cobb's jumper served as the final points for the Lady Bulldogs of the first half as North Carolina led 36-14 at halftime.

A Cobb field goal opened the scoring in the third quarter as the Tar Heels led by no fewer than 25 points in the frame. McKee sank a jumper with 4:21 remaining in the quarter as North Carolina led 60-40 to close out the third. In the final quarter, the Lady Bulldogs continued to battle and added 15 points to the board. Cobb's jumper with 59 seconds remaining served as the game's final points.

North Carolina finished 29-for-78 (37.2%) from the field while the Lady Bulldogs finished 28.1% (16-for-57). UNC finished 10-for-15 (66%) from the free throw line, with A&M finishing 3-for-5 (60%). The Tar Heels held a 53-38 advantage in rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 22 as they host Concordia.
