Western Michigan tops Bulldogs

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- On a blustery Thursday night, the Bulldogs dropped their final nonconference game of the season at Western Michigan. The host Broncos held off Alabama A&M 80-50.

Rakiya Battle was the lone Bulldog to hit double figures with his 17-point effort.

A vocal contingent of A&M alums from the Detroit area journeyed through the snow to support the Bulldogs.

The taller Broncos - with four players ranging from 6-foot-8 to 7-foot - outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-24.

The Bulldogs hung tight with Western Michigan in the early going, leading 16-14 with about 11 minutes to go in the first half.

However, that was A&M's lone lead of the game.

The Bulldogs open SWAC play on Jan. 2 when Jackson State visits Elmore Gym.
