Woods homers in Bulldogs' loss at Ga. State

ATLANTA -- An eight-run second inning proved the difference Tuesday as the Bulldogs lost at Georgia State 13-5.

The two teams will play Wednesday at 3 p.m. (CT). The game can be viewed on Live Stats at http://www.georgiastatesports.com/liveStats/liveStats.dbml?SPSID=53506&SPID=5651&&DB_OEM_ID=12700.

With A&M trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Bulldogs' third baseman Cornelius Woods drove the ball over the leftfield fence to tie the score.

But then, GSU scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the third to take an 11-1 lead.

With one out in the Bulldogs' fourth, Woods walked and Ty Russell was hit by a pitch. Another out later, Ryan Thrasher singled to score Woods. Boston Martinez-Neal followed with a double to left to bring home Russell and A&M cut the GSU lead to 11-3.

In the fifth inning, Saige Benson hit a two-out, bases-loaded single with Nolan Ramsey and Carlton Peppers scoring. However, those were the final runs of the day for A&M.

Benson had two of the Bulldogs' eight hits and Woods scored two of the team's five runs.

Owen Stubberfield pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief of Allen Belue, giving up two runs and four hits while striking out four.
